Lyrics Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Posted by christmas - December 11th, 2008

Have You A Merry Little Christmas is definitely my favorite Christmas song. I’ve know this song from Christmas records my parents played when I was a kid. I especially remember the recording they played of the Carpenters singing this song.

I don’t have any funny stories about this song, because it is not a funny song. I used to like playing it on the piano a lot. I made a short film about two loners named Hugo and Ellora and I used this song.

They wander around their suburban hometown post-Christmas and come upon the town’s Christmas display. As they sit on the wheels of a toy train on the display, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas played on the soundtrack.

It perfectly captured the feeling of alienation they were experiencing in their lonely town and how lost they felt about their lives. I believe this to be one of the saddest Christmas songs there are out there and it has a beautiful melody.

It was first sung by Judy Garland whose voice and persona definitely brought the sadness to this song. Frank Sinatra didn’t like how depressing the song was so he had some lines changed, but to me, that seems wrong. The depressing nature of this song is its whole point.

This and I’ll Be Home For Christmas are two songs that have real emotion in them. They’re not silly and jolly like Jingle Bells or other annoying Christmas tunes. There have been some great covers of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Tori Amos and Coldplay both do great versions; both versions understand its melancholy. Read More »

Lyrics Christmas in our Hearts

Posted by christmas - December 10th, 2008

The title of my favorite Christmas song is “Christmas in our Hearts” by a local Philippines artist named Jose Mari Chan.

I knew this song since I was just a kid, since me and my friends and cousins used to sing this when we go out caroling every night starting December 16 until Christmas Eve.

I remembered one Christmas Eve clearly, when we sang this song to one of the houses we decided to sing Christmas carols to. A little child came out with her mother and started singing the song with us.

It was my most memorable caroling trip. Having a child sing the lyrics to a heartfelt song just affected me in a way that I never dreamed possible. It’s like an angel singing the song to me. I like this song because it depicts the way Christmas should be, and its simple way, touched my heart and made me realize that Christmas should not only happen once a year but everyday of our lives. The song goes like this:

Lyrics Christmas in our Hearts

Whenever i see girls and boys selling lanterns on the street
I remember the child in the manger as he sleeps
Whenever there are people giving gifts exchanging cards
I believe that christmas is truly in there hearts
So let’s light our christmas trees for a bright tomorrow
Were nations are at peace,
And all are one in god Read More »

Gift ideas for 30 year old woman with 3 children

Posted by christmas - December 10th, 2008

I am a 30-year-old female with 3 children. Last year for Christmas I was given a special edition of the board game Scrabble. I love that gift, just wish I could get someone to play it with me now.

My husband gave me a new set of pots and pans – not very romantic, but badly needed. He also gave me a power drill so I would stop asking his dad if I could borrow his.

Again, not very romantic, but I was thrilled it was for me since he can’t be trusted with a tool at all! My mother gave me a blanket wrap – it’s the softest and coziest fabric I’ve ever had near my skin!

She also gave me a gift card to JCPenny so I could finally get some nice curtains for my living room. I used the gift card to buy gifts for my sister-in-law’s wedding gift.

I’m running out of excuses why I haven’t bought my curtains yet when my mom asks about it! My mother also bought me a cheap coffee maker so she and my father could have coffee when they come over for Christmas breakfast! Read More »

Touching gift ideas for 74 year old woman

Posted by christmas - December 9th, 2008

I am a 74 year old grandmother of seven and mother of four. Naturally, I receive a great many gifts throughout the year but especially at Christmas time. Last year I received over 20 different gifts, but there was one in particular that I cherished the most.

It was from my 4 year old granddaughter Kae. What was so important about this gift? Was it expensive? Was it something I needed? Was it something exquisite and delicate? No, none of those would describe this particular present.

As I said before, it came from my youngest granddaughter, who just turned four this month. I looked at the big mountain of packages that had my name scribbled on the tiny cards attached, and this little envelope just caught my attention.

When I picked it out from among the various boxes and bags, my granddaughter recognized it immediately and starting clapping her fat little hands saying “grandma, that’s mine”. Of course, we all laughed and I carefully proceeded to unwrap my very special envelope. Read More »

Lyrics The Holly and the Ivy Christmas song

Posted by christmas - December 9th, 2008

My favorite Christmas song is “The Holly and the Ivy”. “The Holly and the Ivy” is a traditional Christmas carol, which is among the most lightly Christianized carols of the Yuletide—the holly and the ivy being among the most familiar Druidic plants.

“Holly and ivy have been the mainstay of Christmas decoration for church use since at least the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, when they are mentioned regularly in churchwardens’ accounts” (Roud 2004).

The holly and the ivy,
When they are both full grown
Of all the trees that are in the wood
The holly bears the crown
O the rising of the sun
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ
Sweet singing of the choir

The holly bears a blossom
As white as lily flower
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ
To be our sweet Saviour
O the rising of the sun
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ
Sweet singing of the choir Read More »

Gifts ideas for 24 year old woman

Posted by christmas - December 8th, 2008

From my husband I received a digital camera, which doesn’t work very well so I just use his instead, a watch, an expensive hair straightener made by Conair, that is just ok.

The best gift I got last Christmas was a baby. She actually came a few months before, but I consider her to be a wonderful Christmas present.

I loved the gift card from my brother in law because I read a lot. The robe from my mother in law was great because my husband kept complaining about my old one being a granny robe.

The watch was very nice so it isn’t something I wear all the time. Usually only if we are going out to a party in which I have to be dressed up. Read More »

Lyrics Someday At Christmas by Pearl Jam

Posted by christmas - December 8th, 2008

Whenever I’m asked what my favorite Christmas song is only one song comes to mind, and that is “Some Day At Christmas” by Pearl Jam.

The song was originally done by Stevie Wonder but more recently Pearl Jam did a cover of it for the Christmas season.

I first heard this song in the car when I was a very little boy when I was with my mom. She of course played the Stevie Wonder version of it. I didn’t think much of the song at the time because back then I did not care much for music considering I was only four or five.

The only lyrics I could find for this song were for the Stevie wonder version. But it is ok because Pearl Jam used the same words.

Someday at christmas men won’t be boys
Playing with bombs like kids play with toys
one warm december our hearts will see
A world where men are free Read More »

One of my family’s favorite holiday recipes is for Mini-Cheesecakes

Posted by christmas - December 7th, 2008

One of my family’s favorite holiday recipes is for Mini-Cheesecakes. Really, who doesn’t love cheesecake? I also happen to love all things mini.

Cheesecake + mini = perfection, at least for me.

My mom has been making these little delights for years and we pass them out like other families hand out Christmas cookies.

I wish I knew where the original recipe came from. It was probably the cream cheese package or some random magazine of I know my mom, which I do! The Mini-Cheesecakes are also always a hit at pot lucks and just about any function you’d want to bring food to.

I often get special requests for them at work. They also make a great bake sale item!

I usually have to make double what I was going to so I still have enough when I leave the house. My husband and our roommate scarf them down like potato chips.

The ingredients are as follows: Read More »

Christmas song Winter Wonderland Lyrics

Posted by christmas - December 7th, 2008

Winter Wonderland Lyrics – The Movie “Elf” – It just reminds me of when she’s taking a shower and he walks in and they find each other there”

Winter Wonderland Lyrics

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We’re happy tonight.
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland. Read More »
