I do my own decorations each Christmas, I currently do not put up as many decorations as I used to growing up, but as far as decorations go the most important decoration is of course our Christmas tree, which sadly enough is the same tree every year as it is store bought from K-mart about 3-4 years ago.
The lights we use are all blue, which my wife and son agree look really cool at night, I can’t recall where we got the lights but they are the kind of lights that have the larger bulbs as opposed to the smaller white ones.
One decoration I love to do each year for Christmas is our outside lights on the front porch which consist of 3 8 foot strands of like garland tree stuff, sorry for the lack of terms, its basically garland but made from fake tree material and has the lights all ready pre-strung on it.
The reason I love doing these particular lights is because it gives my son and I a chance to do something really fun together where he gets to pretty much give all his input and ideas of how things should look and how to do it. Read More »

As a kid, I played quite a few games with my family and siblings. Some of my favorites that we played each year were the Candy Cane Pass and Rudolph Dash.
The Candy Cane pass you needed at least 4 candy canes per team and a few extras in case they broke. Each player held 4 candy canes between their fingers and passed them down the line, teammate to teammate, without dropping.
If a person dropped it, they were out. We kept doing this until one person was left.
The other game, Rudolph Dash, all we needed was some Vaseline and we cut out circles from red construction paper. Our mom, or who ever was supposed to be watching us, would have each of us kids put a dab of Vaseline on our nose, and then choose the person to go first. Read More »

My sister first made this recipe at Christmas about 10 years ago. It was a big hit with the family and now they expect her to make it every year! Heaven forbid that Judy show up without her famous Stained Glass Window candies!
She always makes several batches and takes them to various family gatherings in cute holiday tins. These would even make a neat gift for someone who doesn’t have dietary limitations.
Needless to say, the kids all love them! Luckily, it is very simple to make, and contains few ingredients. It is inexpensive as well. Here is the recipe, so that maybe you can start a tradition for your family holiday!

Would I mind if I received a house for Christmas? Psh! Is the sky blue? That’s a dream that would be a total miracle for my family and myself! Yes, I’ve dreamed of something like this before, many times. It wouldn’t have to be a Christmas gift though; I would welcome it at any time!
I don’t know anyone who would do this for me. My husband and I have been struggling for 30 years to have some kind of stability. We have four children who are all basically grown now, and we have four grandchildren.

Christmas is one of my favorite times of year, I go all out in decorating, in fact I am starting to get the decorations out already for this year.
I have three Christmas trees in my house, one in the dining room, one for the keeping room and one for the family room. Our family room tree is decorated with ornaments that we get for the children and ornaments that they make.
Every year I purchase each of them an ornament from Hallmark and one that relates to a passion of theirs from that year. In addition the in-laws give them each a name ornament for the year.
The family room tree is truly our family tree. Our family room is decorated by the entire family we have child friendly decorations in the room, a train that circles the tree, stockings for each family member; the mantel is decorated with candles and snow men. Read More »

When I think back to the Christmas’s of my childhood, I can’t help but be flooded with memories of Christmas Eve at my grandparents.
In our family Christmas Eve was the big night. We would drive an hour to get to the grandparents house.
We would hurry in from the cold, dressed in our finest. My grandmother would have the pirogues ready. When walking into the house you could hear the beautiful sound of Nat King Coles voice.
My grandfather always played his Christmas record. To me Christmas was not Christmas without Nat King Cole. To this day it doesn’t even start to feel like the Christmas season until I’ve listened to his, and my, favorite Christmas song, The Christmas Song. “Chestnuts roasting on and open fire/Jack Frost Nipping at your nose”. My favorite Christmas song is ‘Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy’ by David Bowie and Bing Crosby.
I first heard this song while watching an old Bing Crosby Christmas Special. It happened to be his last one. It was recorded in September 1977, Mr. Crosby passed away a month later.
The show was prod cast that December. After hearing the song the first time it played over and over again in my head. I’m not sure what it is that makes me love this song so much. Perhaps its the two wonderful artists that sang it.
Or maybe its the amazing harmony of putting ‘Peace On Earth’ and ‘Little Drummer Boy’ together the way that David Bowie and Bing Crosby did. No matter what it is, every Christmas season since I first heard it I always looked forward to hearing it on the radio. Read More »

Silent night is my favorite song. The first time I heard it was at church. That was a mere prelude to the best time I remember hearing it.
During a Christmas program at the church the next year they played Silent Night on an electric guitar I loved the way it sounded.
The guitar added a higher quality to the sound of the instruments that traditionally played the tune.
It was very surreal and relaxing. I had almost an out of body experience as the music moved through the room.
People of all ages were touched deeply by the music. To this day my mother can not sing the song without tearing up. The lyrics of Silent Night are as follows:

I remember growing up that my grandmother made the best crunchy cookies for Christmas every year and I just could not get enough of them.
I would eat them as fast as she would make them.
When I was about 15, my grandmother pulled me aside and explained that the cookies were called Rosettes which were a Scandinavian cookie and that her mother had made them and she wanted to pass the tradition on to me.
The cookies are easy to make, the most difficult part was to find the iron used to make the cookies, but my grandmother had given me hers.
The recipe is quite easy. It calls for: Read More »
