Christmas in England

Christmas around the world is the time of year full of a variety of different celebrations and Christmas traditions around the world. Depending where you live there will be something unique and special to each celebrated christmas around the world.

Many of the Christmas traditions around the world originated in England and are still used and celebrated for many a Christmas around the world.

The Christmas tree was made popular by Prince Albert husband of Queen Victoria in 1840.

Christmas stockings are hung on the fireplace or foot of the bed for Santa Claus (or Father Christmas) to fill with goodies and Christmas presents are placed underneath the Christmas tree.

On Christmas Day presents are opened and church services are attended by many families.

A large traditional Christmas feast might include roast turkey, chicken or goose with stuffing and roast potatoes. Afterwards mince pies and Christmas pudding is served.

Children in England love pantomimes which are song and dance dramatizations of well known fairy tales.

Another of the popular Christmas traditions that originated in England and is used at Christmas around the world is the tradition of Christmas crackers.

The Christmas crackers are brightly covered paper tubes filled with toys, trinkets and goodies usually done after dinner, by where two people pull at each end to crack open the gifts inside.
