Christmas in Greece

Posted by Santa Clause - February 4th, 2003

Christmas around the world is a wonderful time to get together with family and friends while sharing in Christmas traditions around the world.

The last century has given way to Christmas around the world being celebrated in countries that otherwise did not celebrate the popular holiday.

It has become somewhat difficult to not participate in the wonderful Christmas traditions around the world given the visibility and magic of Christmas around the world.

At one time Christmas wasn’t a big celebration in Greece compared to that of Easter, however it’s popularity has grown and you will now find lavish decorations and lights hung over the streets in larger cities and towns.

Athens has the largest Christmas tree in Europe with live stage acts and shows as part of the Christmas celebrations. The Christmas feast in Greece is festively large with lamb, pork and loaves of “christopsomo” (christ bread).

Only recently have Christmas trees started to gain popularity in homes. In most homes you will find a shallow wooden bowl with a piece of wire across the rim that holds a wooden cross wrapped with a sprig of basil symbolizing the season.

Wherever you find Christmas around the world being celebrated you are sure to find magic in the air. The holiday season with its decorations, festivities and feasts is a time to come together with family and friends and start the year anew.

Share your Christmas experience, we are impatient to read it :-)
