Christmas in Japan
Christmas around the world is a celebration that encourages hospitality, hope and a myriad of different Christmas traditions around the world. How Christmas around the world is spent varies from country to country depending a lot on the religious beliefs and customs of the country of origin.
Christmas around the world is a fairly new celebration in some countries, it is often through television that other Christmas traditions around the world are seen. This is true in Japan where Christmas is celebrated mostly in the larger cities, it wasn’t until the beginning of the 20th century that the holiday became popular, because of all the Christmas products being made for other countries. Most Japanese who do celebrate Christmas only do so out of love for their children.
There are Christmas decorations throughout the cities with lights and tinsel hung throughout the cafes, dance halls and pinball parlors. Trees can be decorated with lanterns, paper fans and ornaments, wind chimes, dolls, small toys and miniature candles. The most popular of the ornaments is the origami swan. Santa is called “Santa Kurohsu” by Japanese children who believe he has eyes in the back of his head to watch the children all year long.
For many people Christmas around the world is a time for sharing and doing special things for others, this is especially true in Japan. Christmas is the time of year when Japanese take time do do special deeds for others, one example being the decorating of Christmas trees in hospitals to uplift patients spirits.
