Christmas song – O Holy Night Lyrics
“My favorite Christmas song is “Oh Holy Night” sung by Twila Paris with Aaron Neville coming in a close second. Our church has Worship dancers which my sister was a part of and they put together a dance routine to this song. It was so touching that I cry every time I see them do it or even just hear the song. My favorite part of the dance is when they actually fall on their knees along with the words to the song. Oh Holy Night was written by Placide Clappeau, a French mayor, in 1847. ”
“I first learned this song in elementary school chorus; it gives me Goosebumps every time I hear it. Now this is most favorite Christmas song and we love to sing it all together around the Christmas tree.
My kids even love to get sleep on this carol and it is so easy to put them in the bed when O Holy Night is playing.”
“What is my favorite Christmas song? Of all the Christmas songs out there, this is an easy question to answer. It is most definitely O Holy Night. It is absolutely the most beautiful Christmas song of all times, in my opinion.
I get chills and have an over whelming feeling that brings tears whenever I hear this song. Ever since I was a little girl my aunt has sung this song at Christmas time. She always dedicates it to me, telling everyone that she knows that I don’t feel like Christmas until I hear the song. I feel the words just give such meaning to the Christmas season. ”
O Holy Night Lyrics
O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
O’er the world a star is sweetly gleaming,
Now come the wisemen from out of the Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friends.
He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
The words and lyrics of the old carol ‘O Holy Night’ were written by Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure in 1847. He was a wine seller. He was asked by the parish priest to write a poem for Christmas.
The carol appears to have been the first piece of music to be broadcast on radio. It was fist broadcast on AM radio on December 24, 1906. Reginald Fessenden, a Canadian inventor played the song on the violin. Since then it has been sung by numerous performers and featured on a number of TV shows and movies.
