Decorating my Christmas tree is like a trip down memory lane
Decorating my Christmas tree is like a trip down memory lane. Among my decorations are those that I have purchased myself, some which have been given to me by family and friends, and those most special, but unassuming decorations that were made by my child as he grew up.
While there are some ornaments I have purchased merely for their decorative quality, there are those which spoke to the child in me, particularly a Hallmark ornament of a girl gazing out a window in which the silhouette of a sleigh with reindeer can be seen.
Others I purchased for the enjoyment and excitement it gave my child, like the tin soldier who marches across his tiny Hallmark castle. I can not remember what these ornaments cost me, I only remember how much joy they give.
I have quite a collection of unicorn ornaments, as any other little girl, the mystique of the unicorn captured my fancy. My favorites are the blown glass ornaments my mother bought for me, and I am careful every year to wrap the glass unicorns so that they will not be broken in the coming year.
Over the years my son has made quite a few ornaments, but my favorite is a 6 inch hamster who always has a place on my tree. So many ornaments have been given to me as gifts and as I hang them on the tree I remember each and every person who has given them to me.
Touching and looking at these momentos brings those people close to me, no matter how long it has been since I have seen them. I look forward to the day when my son is married and I can begin to give ornaments as gifts to he and his wife, and to make ornaments and start ornament collections for my grandchildren.
