I come from a blended family; my birth mother passed away when I was a baby. When I was two, my father remarried. His second wife already had a little girl who was seven years old at the time.
Because we each had two families, my sister and I would each spend Christmas Eve with the “other” family. I would go to my Grandmother’s and my sister would go to her Dad’s. We would all come together as one family to go to the midnight service at our church.
We would then have our family Christmas on Christmas morning. As I grew, my relationship with my birth mother’s family became more strained and I began to look forward more and more to attending the church service. Read More »

My favorite Christmas song is Silent Night. I learned this song when I attended church as a small child. It was the first Christmas carol that I learned to play on the piano as a young girl. We also sang it at the holiday concert at school when I was in the first grade.
I can remember sitting by our Christmas tree when I was a small child. My parents had a church which sat under the tree, and you could wind it up and it would play this song. I would wind it up and lay on the couch looking at the lights on the tree while listening to the song.
Many times my parents, brother and I would sit in the living room wrapping gifts while it played. As an adult, I have danced to this song at church during the holiday season for the offertory.
It always brings a smile to my face when I hear it and gives me a sense of peace. This song has a special place in my heart. This is a song which is always played around the holidays and most people know it, but I am including the words just in case you have not heard it. Many people know the first verse but not the others.
My favorite Christmas song is Silent Night. I know this song from going to church every year around Christmas time or hearing it play at my parent’s home. Just being around my family and hearing it play while we put up the Christmas tree.
Just trying to get into the spirit of Christmas. I just really like the song and it puts me into the Christmas spirit. Here are the lyrics to Silent Night: Read More »

I have 2 favorite Christmas songs. One is ‘I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day’ which a lot of people know but my other favorite is ‘Old Fashioned Tree’. This one seems to stump everyone.
I always thought that it was the flip side of Gene Autry’s ‘Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer’ record done way back, I guess, in the early 1940s. Whenever it was made, it was always the one that I wanted played as a little girl and to this day I still know all the words. Read More »

My favorite Christmas song is “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”. I love this song because it’s about yearning to celebrate the holiday among loved ones and a loving family, even if only in the mind.
Growing up I came from a large and close-knit Italian-American family who all lived near each other in the same little town. We would always spend every holiday together, especially Christmas.
On Christmas Eve we would gather around the Christmas tree and open our gifts together. My parents and I lived in my maternal grandparents’ home because they were elderly and needed care. My parents had many sisters and brothers. They and their children would join us for holiday meals, sitting around the table in the dining room. Read More »

I would like a new house for a Christmas gift. The only one in my family that could even come close to giving such a gift would be my mother-in-law. She is the most wonderful woman. She is still working at 64 because she loves spending money on her family.
I have never dreamed of getting a gift like a new home. I never gave any thought it, It just wouldn’t be possible for my family. Even though it all possible they would.
I would love to have a home sitting on at least 5 acres. Where my 2 boys had room to ride 4 wheelers. Read More »

Christmas music encompasses a lot of different genres, but still, my all time favorite Christmas song is The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole. Written in July of 1946 by Bob Wells and Mel Torme in a climate that rarely sees snow let alone cold weather at any time, the song has many simple, yet, enduring themes.
The Christmas Song Lyrics
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping at your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir,
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.

Christmas decorating is probably my most favorite activity of the year. It is by far the most exciting and looked forward to activity of the year. My family decorates our house ourselves.
There are several items that we use from year to year. The tree has been the center of our decorating since before I can remember. We use red tinsel and multi-colored lights spun around the tall green tree that sparkle and glow.
There are multi colored metallic balls that sparkle the lights. Balls or gold, silver, purple, red, blue and green make the tree look like a festive fruit cake. My mother also has a set of antique metallic balls from the 1960s that dot the tree with glee. Read More »
