I love Christmas and decorating for Christmas. Although I add new decorations every year, some of the decorations I love the most are those which remind me of years past. One of my favorite types of Christmas decorations are glass icicles (not the tinsel kind).
I love the narrow and long style which aren’t twisted and these just aren’t easy to find these days. I remember my mother having some beautiful icicles when I was a child and they were in many different colors.
Of course, over the years, they broke as tends to happen. Until, one Christmas there weren’t any left. A few years ago I was shopping at Pier 1 and ran across glass icicles which I gave to my mother as a Christmas gift and she loved them. Read More »

I was a single mother raising 4 children. Money was scarce. I had been working 2 sometimes 3 jobs just to pay the bills. Nothing extra. Christmas was soon approaching. As I lay awake night after night trying to figure out how my children were going to have Christmas, the tears would start flowing.
It would take a miracle to help me provide Christmas for them. That miracle happened around December 19th. My father sent $100.00 for the kids for Christmas.
Now came the decision of a lifetime. Do I go and spend $25.00 on each child and get a few little gifts? I had overheard my children discussing on how they wanted the new Nintendo. Hmmm, that could be another choice.
It was selling for exactly $99.99 back then. One present or a few little presents? I headed for the store and bought the Nintendo. Next dilemma, only one gift and 4 children, how will they all have something to open? Read More »

We are finally spending Christmas in our very first new home. After living in a two bedroom apartment for so long, this will be a Christmas of a lifetime.
My dear mother won a lottery and bought me the house of my dreams. It is a three bedroom home with 3 bathrooms and a basement.
I also have a fire place, which is one thing I always wanted to have in a home. On the main floor you have a living room, den, kitchen, laundry room and dining room.
The first floor also has a screen room. I love this feature as we can sit outside in all kinds of weather. All the floors are ceramic tile. I have cathedral ceilings and all appliances are stainless steel. Read More »

Oh to receive such a wonderful gift would mean to be truly loved and blessed, If I had to ever even make a guess at who would or could give such a gracious gift , I would only assume it to be someone from outside my own family as I highly doubt it would be in anyone’s budget in my own family, but if I had to make a guess who would if possible give such a thing I would say it would be my mother.
And if there was ever a house that I have dreamed of it would be a something simple a Ranch style or Townhouse design of some sort.
I have always loved the look and feel of the Ranch style, its so practical being only 2 levels and typically the basement being an area that can be refinished into a great room(s) to host gatherings of the family or perfect for kids to play or whatever. Read More »

Christmas music encompasses a lot of different genres, but still, my all time favorite Christmas song is The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole. Written in July of 1946 by Bob Wells and Mel Torme in a climate that rarely sees snow let alone cold weather at any time, the song has many simple, yet, enduring themes.
The Christmas Song Lyrics
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping at your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir,
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.
