On the morning after Thanksgiving, my dad ALWAYS brings out the Christmas tree. I can remember this back as far as possible when I was just a little girl. We usually would get together as a family to then decorate this with the multicolored flashing lights, tinsel, and garland.
We then put on our many many ornaments that included new ones and old ones as old as each child was as well. My family was never a rich family nor did we have a need to have big fancy decorations.
We always bought our decorations from stores like K-Mart, WalMart, and other discount stores. It didn’t matter the brand, as long as it was something that we could enjoy and put together as a family. Read More »

My parents or my husbands parents are the most likely to buy us a house, unless some lucky family member wins the lottery or wins a Nobel Prize or something like that.
I actually have thought about getting a house as a present.
In my mind, it would be a large blue or white Victorian house with a big wrap-around porch and white shutters and moldings on the outside. I would love a garden out front, with white and yellow tulips.
In the backyard, I would love to have a swimming pool with a small waterfall and a fence on the outside of the property. Read More »

I just graduated from college in 2004, so I’ve been building my Christmas decorations for the past few years since I’ve lived on my own. I’ve gone in a different direction than the traditional Christmas tree we had growing up with Colonial Williamsburg ornaments, white lights, and lots of brass and hand-sewn ornaments.
I still use only white lights as it’s what my family and my boyfriend’s family does. I also have quite a few hand-painted glass balls done by my friends and family who are artists (some have paintings of my old house, my boyfriend’s home, and Norwegian nisse, or elves since I was born there). Ever since I have moved out on my own, I have loved to decorate for Christmas. Christmas has always been my favorite holiday, just because of the decorations. My mom would take us downtown to see all the lights.
We’d go to this man’s house whose yard was lit up like Las Vegas. He even wore a lit-up suit to greet the kids. While I don’t go all out like he did, I’ve slowly collected decorations over the past few years. To me the most important part is the tree.
Usually the weekend after Thanksgiving I’ll go to the farmer’s market to pick out a tree, always some kind of fir. The tree goes up at home in the front of the house. The first thing I put on the tree are the lights. Read More »

Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I love the decorations and how pretty everything looks on the houses and the malls. The season also has this feeling to it of joy and happiness. It’s something that I can not explain but its definitely there.
I am twenty now and no longer believe in Santa Claus but I still get that old childhood feeling when I was younger on Christmas Eve and morning. My favorite Christmas song of old time is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer sung by Burl Ives.

Christmas is my favorite holiday. I begin to decorate my home the day after Thanksgiving and shop all year for the perfect gift for family and friends. I am a forty-five year old woman who has been married for twenty-five years.
Through the years my husband has always tried to get me just the right Christmas present. For the first few years I always received something for the home, and longed for a personal gift. Then one year he got the hint from my sister and actually bought me a lovely outfit. I was thrilled.
