I start Christmas decoration by buying a tree

Posted by christmas - December 15th, 2008

Shortly after Thanksgiving, I start pulling out my Christmas stuff. I start by going to the local grocery store and buying a tree.

When I get it home I put it in the holder thingy and fill it with coke and water. The sugar in the coke helps the tree stay alive longer. I pull out some small lights that I got from Wal-Mart and wrap a couple of strings of them around the tree, the lights are colored and white.

I pop some popcorn and string the popcorn and some cranberries using a needle and thread and then string it around the tree, I used to do this with my mom when I was still home during the holidays.

After that, I pull out the holiday tin full of the decorations that my mom gave me. They are all heirloom decorations, very thin ornaments hand blown, clip on fake birds, and small tin clip on candle holders, and you know the ones they used to use to light the trees before they had lights.

I also hang up the corn ornament that my mom gave me for Christmas when I was sixteen and the ballet dancer from the nutcracker ballet.

I put a star that was given to me by a friend on the top of the tree for final touches. I still hang stockings, one for my boyfriend, his from his childhood, one for my dog, got it from PetSmart, and mine.

My grandma hand sewed it for me when I was born and it has my name embroidered on it. That is my favorite. We hang some tube like lighting around the windows, they are blue, and find candles that smell like pine and apples, those scents always remind me of my grandma’s at Christmas.

Now that we have a fireplace, i’m going to go and get a garland to drape over the mantel and those stocking holders, i want them in the shape of rain deers or maybe trees, preferable silver or a matte styled white.

After all the Christmas decorations are put up, I pull out the Christmas collar for the dog and the bandanna that has candy canes that I got from PetSmart to put around the neck.

Share your Christmas experience, we are impatient to read it :-)
