I usually use religious Christmas decorations

I have four children, so Christmas at my house is very hectic and fun. I buy most of my Christmas decorations but couldn’t give details on brand names because I buy what I need when I need it or during the after Christmas sales. We then incorporate these decorations into the next Christmas.

Since my children are school age some of my favorite decorations come from them. I particularly like the bells they made out of Dixie cups and the Popsicle crosses with their pictures on them. Obviously, we use lights on are tree.

My three year old loves to see the tree lit up and I love to see her face light up when she sees it. I like the multi colored blinking lights. We have lights that play tinny sounding music but we usually turn that feature off. It gets annoying after awhile.

When I was little my mother always used garland. It does leave less of a mess than tinsel but I don’t think it is as pretty. I use silver tinsel and believe it or not I put it on one piece at a time. If put on correctly, less is more when it comes to tinsel.

I can’t stand a tree that has gobs of tinsel all over the tree or looks like it has been sprayed on. It makes the tree look like it is covered in a spider web.

As for decorations, I usually use religious Christmas decorations. Things like angels and crosses mixed with the children’s handmade decorations. It’s fun to see them each Christmas as they pull out a decoration and relate their memory of when and how they made it.

I don’t spend a lot on decorations because I re-use them every year. Maybe twenty to thirty dollars. I expect that one year I will have more handmade decorations than store bought ones. That’s fine by me.

My mother’s tree is like that. She has five children and she can tell you who made each decoration and when. I’ll probably be able to have a story and a memory to go with each one of mine and that makes Christmas even better. That is what makes Christmas special.
