Most of my Christmas are a little like Mr Bean’s

I am a 43 year old woman with two children. I’m divorced and I’m sorry to say that most of my Christmas are a little like Mr Bean’s. He has no one who wants to give him gifts, but must buy them for himself and then act surprised to get them.

Last Christmas was quite unique in many ways. I had learned that my mother was diagnosed with cancer and that is was possibly terminal. I had decided to change careers and had left a job of ten years behind me.

The month of December is a special time for me. I not only celebrate Christmas but also the season of Advent. This season is four weeks long and may start as early as the first Sunday after Thanksgiving.

Because I had quit my last employer, I was now free the entire month of December which was a great opportunity to do some research into where I was going next. I had my wish list. I wanted a new career for Christmas and I got it!

It was the most amazing thing that ever happened to me. I became a banker, which was completely different from what I was doing with my last employer. I also had the opportunity to sit and watch holiday movies with my mother, who past away recently.

I believe that the gift of that memory will be more cherished than any possession I’ve ever received. I also had the opportunity to enjoy a local museum’s holiday festival of lights. Called Magic at the Mill, the Mission Mill Museum decorates the grounds including the trees with lights.

The weather was cool, but pleasant for December and I sang carols with some of the other visitors. I gave myself a real tree for Christmas last year, I had been using and artificial one. It was beautiful, however there was a yellow jacket nestled in a bough. One of my cats found it and I was able to kill it before someone got stung.

Share your Christmas experience, we are impatient to read it :-)
