Nativity of Jesus

The Nativity of Jesus is one of the greatest Christian holidays. Jesus’ birth signs the coming of the promised Savior, who will redress the connection between humans and God, broken with the Original sin.

Jesus Christ – the Son of God, was born as an ordinary baby in an ordinary family. Mary – the woman chosen to be Her mother and her husband Josef had to get back home in Bethlehem for a census.

The small town was crowded, and all inns were full. The travails of the pregnant Mary had already begun. A stock-breeder took pity on the family and gave them a shelter in a cave where he kept his cattle. That is why our Savior Jesus Christ was born in a stable. Instead of bed His parents laid Him in a crib, where the animals were feed.

The first who greeted Jesus with his coming to the world, were shepherds. The joyous news was told them by an angel who said “Do not be afraid; for see — I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:10-12).

The next who visited the Son of God were the three Magi lead by the prophecy of the Bethlehem star. First they visited the palace of the King in Jerusalem and they were directed by the preachers to Bethlehem where the Magi bowed to God’s Son and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

The Church doesn’t celebrate the Nativity of Jesus on a particular date until the 6 A.D. The date of His birth was not recorded by anyone chroniclers. The day of 25-th of December was chosen because it coincides with the date of the winter solstice, which the Romans called bruma.
