One of my favorite types of Christmas decorations are glass icicles

I love Christmas and decorating for Christmas. Although I add new decorations every year, some of the decorations I love the most are those which remind me of years past. One of my favorite types of Christmas decorations are glass icicles (not the tinsel kind).

I love the narrow and long style which aren’t twisted and these just aren’t easy to find these days. I remember my mother having some beautiful icicles when I was a child and they were in many different colors.

Of course, over the years, they broke as tends to happen. Until, one Christmas there weren’t any left. A few years ago I was shopping at Pier 1 and ran across glass icicles which I gave to my mother as a Christmas gift and she loved them.

However, I forgot to pick some up for myself. Just last holiday season I set out to find similar icicles for myself and the job was nearly impossible. I kept finding “tinsel” listed as icicles, something I would never call them.

Finally, I found some on Ebay by someone who makes her own glass art. While these are extremely beautiful and unique, they are smaller than I would like and are not quite like the icicles I remember from my childhood.

Of course, the next time I stumbled across icicles like the ones I bought my mom, I will make sure to pick some up for myself. Icicles were not the only thing I looked for last year. I wanted a topper for our Christmas tree. Because we celebrate Christmas for tradition rather than religion, I wanted a star rather than an angel.

However, I had trouble finding internet stores who would ship to us and many of the stars I found were very tacky looking. I finally fell in love with a star on Ebay and the seller agreed to ship to us. I bid on the item for nearly a week but at the very last second, was outbid. I was ready to spend about 4 times the original amount I had bid by the time the auction ended and was very disappointed.

Share your Christmas experience, we are impatient to read it :-)
