I start Christmas decoration by buying a tree

Posted by christmas - December 15th, 2008

Shortly after Thanksgiving, I start pulling out my Christmas stuff. I start by going to the local grocery store and buying a tree.

When I get it home I put it in the holder thingy and fill it with coke and water. The sugar in the coke helps the tree stay alive longer. I pull out some small lights that I got from Wal-Mart and wrap a couple of strings of them around the tree, the lights are colored and white.

I pop some popcorn and string the popcorn and some cranberries using a needle and thread and then string it around the tree, I used to do this with my mom when I was still home during the holidays.

After that, I pull out the holiday tin full of the decorations that my mom gave me. They are all heirloom decorations, very thin ornaments hand blown, clip on fake birds, and small tin clip on candle holders, and you know the ones they used to use to light the trees before they had lights. I buy my Christmas decorations on clearance after Christmas

Posted by christmas - December 14th, 2008

I buy my Christmas decorations on clearance after Christmas. Last year at Target I purchased a tree on clearance for $5.00.

It is a 6 foot artificial Douglas fir. I bought some of my ornaments on sale the same way.

My young children wanted to decorate their own tree this year so I brought them to AC Moore on the 1st of November.

They had Christmas items on sale for 55% off. They had a huge selection, and their ornaments are just as nice as the ones I purchased elsewhere.

While I was there I looked in the children’s craft section and found some cute things I could make with the kids to set on table tops, window sills, and my counter top. Read More »

I start decorating the windows first

Posted by christmas - December 12th, 2008

When I decorate I start by going through all of my old Christmas decorations, those class decorations that breaks I go to a department store, ie: Target or K-Mart, to purchase them.

I start decorating the windows first. I like color lights around the windows. Then I put clear lights on the tree.

I have the star put on and the tree skirt. I place ornaments around the tree skirt, such as baby Jesus, etc. Read More »

One decoration I love to do each year for Christmas is our outside lights

Posted by christmas - December 6th, 2008

I do my own decorations each Christmas, I currently do not put up as many decorations as I used to growing up, but as far as decorations go the most important decoration is of course our Christmas tree, which sadly enough is the same tree every year as it is store bought from K-mart about 3-4 years ago.

The lights we use are all blue, which my wife and son agree look really cool at night, I can’t recall where we got the lights but they are the kind of lights that have the larger bulbs as opposed to the smaller white ones.

One decoration I love to do each year for Christmas is our outside lights on the front porch which consist of 3 8 foot strands of like garland tree stuff, sorry for the lack of terms, its basically garland but made from fake tree material and has the lights all ready pre-strung on it.

The reason I love doing these particular lights is because it gives my son and I a chance to do something really fun together where he gets to pretty much give all his input and ideas of how things should look and how to do it. Read More »

I have three Christmas trees in my house

Posted by christmas - December 5th, 2008

Christmas is one of my favorite times of year, I go all out in decorating, in fact I am starting to get the decorations out already for this year.

I have three Christmas trees in my house, one in the dining room, one for the keeping room and one for the family room. Our family room tree is decorated with ornaments that we get for the children and ornaments that they make.

Every year I purchase each of them an ornament from Hallmark and one that relates to a passion of theirs from that year. In addition the in-laws give them each a name ornament for the year.

The family room tree is truly our family tree. Our family room is decorated by the entire family we have child friendly decorations in the room, a train that circles the tree, stockings for each family member; the mantel is decorated with candles and snow men. Read More »

One of my favorite types of Christmas decorations are glass icicles

Posted by christmas - December 4th, 2008

I love Christmas and decorating for Christmas. Although I add new decorations every year, some of the decorations I love the most are those which remind me of years past. One of my favorite types of Christmas decorations are glass icicles (not the tinsel kind).

I love the narrow and long style which aren’t twisted and these just aren’t easy to find these days. I remember my mother having some beautiful icicles when I was a child and they were in many different colors.

Of course, over the years, they broke as tends to happen. Until, one Christmas there weren’t any left. A few years ago I was shopping at Pier 1 and ran across glass icicles which I gave to my mother as a Christmas gift and she loved them. Read More »

We have a collection or outhouse Christmas ornaments

Posted by christmas - December 3rd, 2008

In my house, we always have two Christmas trees. The larger of the two trees is set up upstairs, in the living room, and we put lights on it as well as decorations such as balls and ornaments.

Downstairs, we put a plastic tree that is not as attractive. Usually, we will have either a bow or a wreath placed on the front door. Also, we have some angels and Santa Clause stockings that we hang from our kitchen bar.

Outside, we usually do a poor job of hanging colored lights around the house and fence. That way, when it is dark and cold outside, we have something jolly to gawk at.

Also, our neighbors enjoy looking at our lighted yard. My wife makes popcorn stringers, and these go on the tree. Read More »

On the morning after Thanksgiving my dad ALWAYS brings out the Christmas tree

Posted by christmas - December 2nd, 2008

On the morning after Thanksgiving, my dad ALWAYS brings out the Christmas tree. I can remember this back as far as possible when I was just a little girl. We usually would get together as a family to then decorate this with the multicolored flashing lights, tinsel, and garland.

We then put on our many many ornaments that included new ones and old ones as old as each child was as well. My family was never a rich family nor did we have a need to have big fancy decorations.

We always bought our decorations from stores like K-Mart, WalMart, and other discount stores. It didn’t matter the brand, as long as it was something that we could enjoy and put together as a family. Read More »

My mother taught me to make all these Christmas decorations

Posted by christmas - December 1st, 2008

Every year I look forward to putting up my Christmas decorations. I always buy a fresh tree from the local farm. And I buy some art supplies to make my own decorations. I have never really bought anything to put out for Christmas.

Either my decorations have been handed down through the family, I receive them as gifts, or I make them myself. I really enjoy sitting down with a glue gun, lots of different colored pieces of felt, cardboard, and plenty of other art supplies.

My mother taught me to make all these Christmas decorations when I was a child, and now I enjoy doing it myself.

My favorite thing to make is Christmas stockings as gifts. I use different colored yarn and knit them myself. They make fantastic gifts, and they’re much more personal than something you buy in a store. Read More »
