The Greatest Gift of All

Posted by christmas - April 10th, 2003

The story goes, there were these three trees, and each had grand aspirations of their own. One had dreams of being used for the greatest of homes, an exquisitely crafted beam supporting the most lavish of residences. Another dreamt of being used by a master shipbuilder, and ferrying kings and queens across distant oceans to places as yet unseen. The third longed to grow into the most majestic of trees in the land, and be gazed upon by all for its beauty and grandeur.

Time passed and the trees became worried. None of their dreams were coming to pass. First the tree that wanted to adorn the most beautiful of homes found itself unwanted and discarded, finally nailed together as a trough for livestock. He was sorely disappointed, until one day Mary and Joseph found a need for that trough, which cradled the baby Jesus.

The second, who wanted so much to transport royalty across mighty seas, found himself fashioned into a lowly fishing boat, confined to the sea of Galilee. He too was mightily downcast, until one day he had the opportunity to carry the King of Kings!

The third tree, which desired nothing more than to live out its days as a tree; albeit the best tree in the neighborhood; was one day split by lightning and consigned to the scrap heap. He was crushed in spirit, certain his usefulness was over. Until one day a Roman soldier gathered him up for use on a hill named Calvary, becoming the cross on which they crucified Jesus Christ.

All of these trees had hopes and dreams, and felt certain these were dashed, until God revealed his plan for their lives. You too may feel the same, sure that your life is without meaning. God has a plan for you! He loves you so much , he was willing to part with his only son to be with you!

God has done his part. Now it’s up to you. If you believe that man is more than the sum of several million “coincidences”, and that your life must indeed have an eternal significance, I invite you seek out Jesus. No one comes to the Father but through the Son; so ask Jesus into your life, find out who you were really meant to be! You will indeed find the meaning of life!
