Touching gift ideas for 74 year old woman
I am a 74 year old grandmother of seven and mother of four. Naturally, I receive a great many gifts throughout the year but especially at Christmas time. Last year I received over 20 different gifts, but there was one in particular that I cherished the most.
It was from my 4 year old granddaughter Kae. What was so important about this gift? Was it expensive? Was it something I needed? Was it something exquisite and delicate? No, none of those would describe this particular present.
As I said before, it came from my youngest granddaughter, who just turned four this month. I looked at the big mountain of packages that had my name scribbled on the tiny cards attached, and this little envelope just caught my attention.
When I picked it out from among the various boxes and bags, my granddaughter recognized it immediately and starting clapping her fat little hands saying “grandma, that’s mine”. Of course, we all laughed and I carefully proceeded to unwrap my very special envelope.
The envelope itself was just plain white envelope, but on the front it had a bright red sticker in the shape of a heart. Under the sticker, written in bright red ink were the words “to grandma”.
Before I even opened it, I got a lump in my throat. Everyone in the room sat quietly while I sat my granddaughter on my lap and proceeded to open this precious gift. Inside was a small piece of pink paper, maybe 4 inches by 4 inches or so.
The big letters were easily identified by me as being written by my baby. In her shaky handwriting she had put several letters that, to the best of her ability, spelled: “Grandma, you are my love” and underneath, her name, Kae.
My heart was pounding inside my chest and tears were streaming down my cheeks. All I could do was hold her and kiss her smiling face and say “thank you, thank you, this is the best present of them all!”.
There wasn’t a dry eye in that living room at that time. You see, what made this present so very special was that it was made with love by a small four year old girl who is dying from a rare form of cancer.
Doctors have no hope that she will see this Christmas and this is why this was the best gift I will or have ever received. Please note that as of today, Kae is still alive and I pray every day I will be able to receive another “very special” gift from her.
