We have always gotten our tree the day after Thanksgiving

I just graduated from college in 2004, so I’ve been building my Christmas decorations for the past few years since I’ve lived on my own. I’ve gone in a different direction than the traditional Christmas tree we had growing up with Colonial Williamsburg ornaments, white lights, and lots of brass and hand-sewn ornaments.

I still use only white lights as it’s what my family and my boyfriend’s family does. I also have quite a few hand-painted glass balls done by my friends and family who are artists (some have paintings of my old house, my boyfriend’s home, and Norwegian nisse, or elves since I was born there).

We also put electric(plug-in) candles in each window that are lit every night. I also use a fresh tree every near, and will probably never buy a fake one. My boyfriend’s family owns land where we go and cut our tree each year, so it’s become a tradition including hot apple cider when the tree is finally up and lit that night.

We have always gotten our tree the day after Thanksgiving and it stays up until 12th night (January 6th) to get the most out of the season. I’m also famous in our family for the treats that I make. Everything from cookies, brownies to pecan pie and cakes is available nearly all the time at my house.
